A Pawesome Charleston Staycation: Exploring the Holy City with Your Furry Friend

Blake and I had the most wonderful staycation in Charleston, and we even brought the two doodles! The city offers a fantastic opportunity for a dog-friendly staycation that you and your fur baby will cherish. In this blog post, I'm sharing our experience of staying at the Ryder Hotel, exploring the dog-friendly aspects of Charleston, and offering some valuable tips for traveling with your dogs.

The Ryder Hotel, located in the heart of Charleston, is not just a luxurious accommodation option for you; it's a paradise for your four-legged friend too. Here's why we chose this pet-friendly hotel:

• ​​Warm Welcome: From the moment you and your dog step into the Ryder Hotel, you'll feel right at home. The staff here is known for their hospitality towards pets, making sure they feel as comfortable as their human guests. Our doodles received so much love from the hotel staff, a many guests!
• Ideal Location: Being centrally located in the Historic District, just a few blocks from the City of Charleston Market, and close to some nice dog friendly restaurants like Bistro  Vin and Le Farfalle. The hotel is also a short walk to Marion Square park and 13 minutes to Joe Riley Waterfront Park! Feel like shopping? King Street is just a block over, and most shops are pet friendly, but it's always best to ask before walking in! 

Charleston is renowned for its dog-friendly atmosphere, and you'll find many places where your furry friend is not just tolerated but genuinely welcomed. Here are some highlights of our staycation:

• Boutiques Galore: Most of the boutiques in downtown Charleston are pet-friendly. It's a great opportunity for some retail therapy while your dog gets to socialize. We loved walking into Sephora, Anthropologie, and DressUp! The dogs loved getting the attention! 
• Historical Sites: Visiting the battery and Rainbow Row is a must when in Charleston. Your dog can join you for a leisurely stroll along these iconic locations. Remember to bring waste bags to clean up after your pet, or pick some up at the various stations around the battery!
• Waterfront Adventures: Consider taking a boat tour or a harbor cruise that allows dogs. It's a fantastic way to explore Charleston's beautiful waterways together.

Tips for a Smooth Vacation with Your Dog:

• Plan Ahead: Check pet policies at accommodations, restaurants, and attractions. Make reservations and confirm pet-friendly options in advance.
• Essentials Packing List: Don't forget your dog's essentials like food, water, bowls, leash, waste bags, and any necessary medications. We also brought Shem's kennel for him to sleep in because he is still sleeping in it at home! • Be Mindful of Your Dog's Comfort: Pay attention to your dog's comfort during hot weather. Carry water for them, and avoid walking on scorching pavements. We also lay a hand flat on the concrete to ensure it's not too hot for our pups paws!
• Respect Local Rules: Always abide by local leash laws and pick up after your dog. Being a responsible pet owner ensures a positive experience for all.
