Salt Lake City, Utah Travel Recap

It’s finally here- I am spilling all the details about our recent trip to Salt Lake City, Utah! I am so excited to be sharing everything that we experienced when we were there and hope this is helpful for those of you planning a trip!

I decided to break this down by day, as it was easier for me to remember what exactly we did HAHA!
Wednesday
  • Wednesday was our first day to enjoy in Salt Lake City! We stayed at my friends apartment, which was amazing because obviously that cut the cost of a hotel, however if we were to stay in a hotel, it would have been The Grand America Hotel! It was beautiful from the street, and my friend we were visiting said it's a popular place to stay!
  • We ran errands the first part of the day to prepare for the rest of our trip! We rented my skis and Blake's snowboard from Sports Den. The employees were extremely helpful, and this store literally has everything you need from ski gear (to buy), rentals, and more!
  • For lunch, we stayed in the same shopping center, and tried a tex-mex place called Costa Vida. It was very much so like a Moes. Nothing crazy, but it was good! We learned while visiting SLC, that the city is not known for food. We tried many delicious restaurants, but we were told the city is not really known for a delicious meal, like Texas is know for BBQ, breakfast tacos, and great Mexican.
  • After lunch we drove around for a little bit, and eventually ended up at District Coffee Co for a warm latte! I order the toasted marshmallow latte!
  • We had plans to meet up with our friends, and drive up to Park City around 3 o'clock, which was perfect timing because it was about a 45 minute drive! We visited St. Regis Deer Valley, which was absolutely beautiful! The hotel still had Christmas decor out, which I was really excited about! We grabbed drinks at the hotels restaurant. I had 'the Zeus' cocktail, which is made up of Casamigos Mezcal, dry curaçao, lime, apple cider, and bronze luster. I can't wait to try to recreate this at home! This was the night Blake proposed, and of course a night I will never forget! Oh how I wish we could relive that night all over again!
  • After Blake proposed we decided to head back to Salt Lake City for dinner. We ate at Tradition. Due to my lactose intolerance, anywhere we go eat, my menu is often made shorter lol! We ordered the brussel sprouts for an appetizer, and they were delicious! I ordered the meatloaf for dinner, and to be honest, I typically would never order meatloaf, but it was so good! Not your traditional meatloaf!
Thursday/Friday
  • We woke up right & early on Thursday morning to get to the mountain to ski! We spent the next two days skiing at Solitude Mountain Resort, which is located in Big Cottonwood Canyon, Utah! It offers eight chairlifts, 3 bowls & 500 annual inches of snow spread over 1,200 acres. Feedback from Blake, "Skiing is much popular at this resort, making it kind of hard to snowboard because skiers ski downhill in an S shape, while snowboards ride in a Z shape." Personally, I am a very timid skier, plus with my leg issues from my vein surgery, you can typically find me on the green slopes, bunny slope, or even the ski lodge drinking a beer lol! We stopped at Alpha Coffee on the way to grab breakfast to go!
  • For dinner we tried a ramen restaurant called, Yoko. It was so good! I got the chicken ramen, and I added veggies! Blake ordered the pork ramen, but preferred the chicken. I also ordered a hot toddy, and it was warm & delicious! Blake and I love breweries, so we really wanted to visit a few while visiting SLC. We went to Fisher Brewing Company after dinner to grab another drink. We both ordered flights, and my favorite was one of they sours. I don't remember the exact name, but I do remember they did not have any ciders, which is my go to drink. They have a cool selection of merchandise. I bought Blake a hat for his birthday, and a sticker for the roof of my jeep!
  • We also went skiing on New Years Eve, which is Blake's birthday. I didn't ski much because my leg was killing, but Blake had a blast snowboarding because the mountain was covered in powder! We got really lucky with the snow fall while in Utah!
  • For dinner, we went to Proper Brewing Co. They serve delicious burgers, and the atmosphere was so much fun! They have all kinds of arcade games including, ski ball, packman, and more! I ordered the 'hipster burger' with red onion jam, kale pesto, garlic aioli, spinach, and typing that out is making me want another one right now! We grabbed a few beers to go from their local beer selection and headed back to watch the ball drop on east coast time lol!
Saturday
  • We decided to go get breakfast out Saturday morning, and tried Rose Establishment. We both ordered lattes, and something for breakfast. I ordered the cinnamon roll, and Blake ordered the waffle they had as a special. The building was cute, but the food was just alright. The customer service was not excellent either to be honest. We didn't get our coffee until after our food arrived and ended up getting it to go because it took so long. However, we were told the shop had just opened back up after having to close for a while due to COVID, so maybe they were just still getting back into the swing of things.
  • We decide to continue with our snow activities, and found a cool spot to go snowshoeing. This was something we both really wanted to do, but it was also totally new to us! I wish we could've gone again because it was fun, relaxing and the views from he mountain were insane! We hiked up Mill Creek Canyon, which was about 4 miles total. We stopped at the top to eat PB&J and drink a beer!
  • For dinner we decided to eat in, and made homemade pizzas with our friends!
Sunday
  • We tried Eva's Bakery for breakfast this morning, and loved it! I had read about this bakery on Pinterest, and I'm so happy we were able to visit. I kept it simple again with greek yogurt and granola, but Blake ordered the croissant sandwich, which he loved! I also got a pistachio macaron, which did not disappoint!
  • I booked us a snowmobiling tour through North Forty Escapes, which is located a little bit past Park City. This is something I highly recommend doing. We had SO MUCH FUN! Again, the views were amazing! I wanted to go dog sledding, but they were fully booked, so we did this instead, and honestly, I am so happy we did! It was thrilling! Our tour guide pointed out Rip's cabin from Yellowstone, so of course we had to go visit that up close after our tour was over!
  • We spent the rest of the day in Park City shopping and stopped at Baan Thai Cuisine. I ordered the pumpkin curry. It was delicious, but a HUGE plate, so I didn't finish it all.
  • For dinner, we grabbed a bite to eat at Red Iguana, a Mexican restaurant, which serves amazing mole sauce. Highly suggest asking your waiter to try a sample of all mole sauces! Our dinner and experience was great!
Monday
  • Our final day of the trip, we decided to drive out to see the Salt Flats! This was something I really wanted to do, but didn't realized it was about a 2 hour drive to pretty much Nevada! I am happy we did this though because the drive was beautiful! Definitely suggest checking the most recent post on Instagram to see if the salt flats are dry before going!
  • Since we were so close to Nevada, we decided to visit a casino while there, and found Montego Bay! If you can't stand the smell of cigarettes, I'd suggest skipping this lol! It wasn't awful, but the smell was engrained in the carpet from back when it was legal to smoke inside! Blake and I both like to gamble so we had a blast and met some cool people while there also! Blake won about $100, and I broke even.
  • On the way back to meet our friends for dinner, we stopped at a local cidery, Mountain West. A very small, quaint place, but the cider was delicious!
  • For dinner, we tried Grid City! I wish they would open one in Charleston I loved it so much! They served a delicious rose seltzer, which was totally different from any seltzer I had ever tried before. Also, the restaurant is vegan and gluten friendly! They had dairy free cheese on the menu! I was amazed lol. Unfortunately, this was our last stop in Salt Lake City before leaving the next morning to go back home. It was a great way to end our trip visiting my best friend Nicole, and her boyfriend Drew.

This was a vacation I will never forget! Of course I will forever remember being proposed to at St. Regis Deer Valley, but it was also the most beautiful place I have ever been to! We loved our vacation, and are already planning to visit Salt Lake City in the summer! Highly recommend visiting!
